Neelum Mehmood - Carers Locality Lead
Tell us about your role in no more than two sentences.
I work on the integrated neighbourhood team and am based at the Phoenix centre in Heywood. My role is to identify and support hidden carers.
What were you doing before you came into the care sector?
I have a social housing background and have worked as a Financial Inclusion Officer and a Homelessness Officer. I have supported vulnerable people with managing their money, budgeting, tenancy related support and basic training to give them the tools to help themselves move forward. I have also been a carer for my father.
What would you say to someone thinking about a career in care?
It is not easy but definitely a challenge and very rewarding. It helps if one has a good support network.
What’s the best thing about working for Crossroads Together?
I have been working with crossroads Together for 8 months and I thoroughly enjoy my role. The team is very supportive.
Which three words would your friends use to describe you?
Genuine, friendly and enthusiastic.
Where’s your favourite holiday destination and why?
This is difficult to answer as I love travelling. I have a few favourites and I guess New York is one of them. This is because of the lively atmosphere and I have great family memories.
What’s your favourite hobby/pastime?
socialising, music, cinema, exercise, eating out, travelling and spending time with my family especially my 2 grandchildren who are my life.
