Andrea Brown - Care Co-ordinator (Rochdale & Oldham)
Tell us about your role in no more than two sentences.
I am the first port of call to carers needing respite from their caring role. I answer the phone, deal with enquiries and take referrals, roster and match up Carer Support Workers with carers.
What were you doing before you came into the care sector?
I worked in an office for an engineering company for 18 years before becoming a childminder. Graded Outstanding by OFSTED. I volunteered in my children’s school and ran the walking bus.
What would you say to someone thinking about a career in care?
I would tell them that it is not “Just taking Mrs Jones to the shop” It is hard work and demanding but the personal rewards and job satisfaction is second to none. It takes someone very special to have a career in care.
What’s the best thing about working for Crossroads Together?
Making a difference to a carer’s day and the fantastic team I work with at Bolton
Which three words would your friends use to describe you?
Little, angry & loud
Where’s your favourite holiday destination and why?
This is a hard question; I have had loads of fantastic holidays.
New York for the buzz & cocktails
Egypt for the beach & the sun
India for the culture & food
What’s your favourite hobby/pastime?
I am a rounder’s/football Mum so spend most of my time stood in a field cheering my daughter on. I read a lot and love going to gigs.
